WELCOME FROM THE DEAN

deanOn behalf of the Office of Diversity, I'd like to welcome you to our website and thank you for your interest in Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons was established in 1787 and granted the first medical degree in the American colonies. In 1928, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, now known as Columbia University Medical Center, became the world's first academic medical center. Today, Columbia remains a leader in medical education, biomedical research and exceptional medical care. We are a historical institution, yet one that is warm and welcoming.

We are fully committed to increasing the diversity of our student body by actively recruiting, enrolling, supporting and graduating students from under-represented minority groups. Our diverse student body and faculty ensure a comprehensive and enriching learning experience for all students. Student life is further enriched by a myriad of student organizations including groups that support the academic, social, cultural and spiritual needs of the student body and faculty. Our students are also active in the multicultural community that surrounds the medical center and throughout New York City.

We hope that you will find the information presented on our website valuable in helping you make decisions about your future career in medicine, and that you will consider continuing your education at Columbia P&S.

Wishing you the best,

Hilda Hutcherson, MD
