STAT Program
(Strategic Testing Application Techniques for Successful Entry
to Medical School)

The STAT Program is a free, intense nine month, weekend academic enrichment boot camp to improve students’ chances of application to medical school—STAT!  A final summer component of small-group clinical rotations in medicine is included to enhance medical experiences. STAT students receive rigorous test preparation for the MCAT provided by Princeton Review, in addition to strategies for successful application to medical school. Students also receive extensive courses designed to improve their skills as students during college and medical school. Contact with medical students and faculty as well as individual mentoring by the Office of Diversity is stressed.

STAT will serves up to 25 pre-medical junior, senior and or post-baccalaureate students from underrepresented, disadvantaged, low-income communities, who have been historically underrepresented in medicine.  Eligible students are US citizens or permanent residents; have an overall GPA of 3.2, with 2.75 in the sciences and enrolled in or graduated from an accredited NYC college or University and must be nominated by an advisor.  Students must be able to attend classes on the weekend.

The program runs from October until the end of June on the campus of the Columbia University Medical Center. Participating students receive a free MCAT course provided by Princeton Review (including all course materials and online access), travel stipend, lunch, registration fees for the MCAT exam, and a stipend upon successful completion of the program.
